Statehouse Grounds Chosen to Maximize Visibility and School Tours, Panel Says

Panelists said the monument's site on the South Portico plaza — directly across from the Ohio Theatre and near public transit — will maximize visibility for everyday passersby and organized school tours.
"It's about the best space you could have outside the building," Charlie Moses said, noting that whether school buses come for tours or theatergoers pass by, the monument will be hard to miss. Panelists said the Statehouse visit that includes the monument will be incorporated in student tours; the forum cited an estimate of about 70,000 students who tour the Statehouse annually.
Organizers also described plans to use pedestal inscriptions and inside-Gallery programming to create a continuum: visitors will learn from the pedestal narratives outside and from related displays inside the Statehouse or the Ladies Gallery. The project team plans additional outreach to educators so the monument can be used in classroom instruction.
