Bernita Reese of Columbus Recreation and Parks listed facility closures: Westgate, Tuttle, Feddersen, Barrack and Fran Ryan were closed for the day; Berlina was closed for Tuesday and Wednesday (updates to follow); and Bush was closed for the week after a transformer strike, creating live power hazards on the ground. Reese said Scioto Southland had been implemented as an emergency shelter and that the department was coordinating with the Red Cross.
Scott Messer, director of Building and Zoning Services, said numerous structural inspectors were out assessing buildings and emphasized caution: roof damage can substantially compromise structural integrity and buildings that seem standing now may be unsafe in future storms. Reese confirmed severe damage at Barrett Community Center, saying, "The roof is, the roof is off the building."
