Presenters and councilors described a broad range of informal estimates from two vendors. A presenter said, "The estimates from natural turf were for the infield only. That was 252,000 up to 280,000 depending on the thickness of the turf, and that was for both infields." Another estimate cited roughly $212,000 per infield when drainage was included.
Councilors noted the figures were informal estimates rather than sealed bids and that vendor quotes sometimes bundled differing scopes (e.g., infields only versus full-field work, drainage included or excluded). To avoid the current confusion, the council asked administration to produce engineered specs that will allow apples-to-apples public bids and to present an aggregated budget estimate ahead of the 2027 budget process.
Speakers also discussed lifecycle and warranty differences among products and the potential need for specialized maintenance equipment if turf is selected. No contract award was made at the workshop.
