The City of Yachats planning commission on a public Zoom session said it has finished a line-by-line review of a 104-page draft of proposed Title 9 zoning changes and will shift to detailed consideration of optional items at a workshop on Aug. 17. Planning Commissioner Steve Chase told participants the commission has held "seven workshop sessions in 14 hours" to review the consultant's recommendations.
Chase said the commission will separate state-mandated elements from optional policy choices and may recommend breaking the code revision into two ordinances to give the optional items more study time; he cautioned splitting ordinances would increase legal and consulting fees. City staff and commissioners urged residents to review materials the city will post online and to participate at the coming workshops as the commission develops policy recommendations to the city council.
