Secretary Christina Justice told the council the tribe's controlled-hunt program received strong early interest.
"In the 1st couple of days, we'd already had over 1,300 applications for those spots," Justice said, noting categories for veterans, elders and youth and that the program currently limits participation to around 50 spots due to property and staffing limits.
Justice said staff will explore ways to expand opportunities while acknowledging property and staffing constraints and that the current grant supporting wildlife work remains active for at least another year.
