Gymnastics coach and boosters urge board to consider alternatives before cutting program
Summary
Jenny Trumbull, a Central Square social worker and varsity gymnastics coach, told the board the program pays over $5,000 annually to rent nearby space, expects rising in-district enrollment next year, and offered alternatives (different host gym, trimming assistant coach) to avoid eliminating the program.

Jenny Trumbull identified herself as a Central Square social worker and the high-school varsity gymnastics coach and urged the board not to remove the gymnastics program without considering alternate cost-saving steps.
"We rent the space right across from the middle school, the Central School Gymnastics Center... we're still charged over $5,000 every single year to use their space," Trumbull said, and added that the team donated equipment to the local gymnastics program but was offered alternative facilities at no cost in the past. She estimated next season could include about 15 in-district gymnasts plus additional out-of-district athletes, saying the program's enrollment regularly fluctuates.
Representatives of the Central Square Redhawk Athletic Boosters and other parents also appealed to the board to explore funding and staffing alternatives. Board and administration members responded by describing transportation challenges and district constraints; administrators noted that some program costs were previously covered with one-time stimulus funding that is no longer available.
