Secretary Christina Justice told the council the tribe will raise landfill tonnage rates to respond to rising costs.
"So it will be $2.50 a ton increase," Justice said, specifying that municipal (household) waste will rise to $29.50 per ton and problematic waste to $41 per ton. She said there will be an added $2.50 per ton surcharge for out-of-state vendors and that the minimum truckload fee will increase by $2 to $10.
Justice also said the tribe is actively working to accept credit-card payments at the landfill and hopes to have that capability by the end of the year, though she cautioned the implementation process is complicated and no firm date was given.
