Fairport Electric officials told trustees that recurring outages on Black Watch Trail have been caused by falling trees outside existing easements, and the utility plans to begin resident outreach this fall about obtaining easements to underground lines.
Officials said the project would require community sign-off and significant coordination; if successful, work could begin in spring 2027. The board noted a similar attempt in the 1990s was unsuccessful and said community involvement will be needed to secure easements.
The announcement followed discussion of recent outages and utility software integration work; trustees framed the outreach as a way to increase reliability after repeated storm-related outages.
