Town to present transportation strategy Aug. 31; Lowell Transit Authority proposes regional service

The town's transportation strategy will be presented to the Select Board on Aug. 31; the Lowell Regional Transit Authority has proposed providing transit service to Concord, which would require joining the LRT and shifting some MBTA funds, a change that would take about a year-plus because of vehicle lead times.
Nick Pappas, representing the Transportation Advisory Committee, summarized the town’s transportation work and thanked staff and volunteers for advancing the strategy. He said the finalized transportation strategy will be formally presented to the Select Board on Aug. 31 and that the committee expects follow-up prioritization on public-safety improvements and temporary safety measures.
Pappas said the Lowell Regional Transit Authority approached the town with a proposal to provide public transit service and that the Select Board will discuss options; he explained one option would require the town to join the Lowell authority, redirecting some funds currently paid to the MBTA, and that rolling out service would take "at least a year and 0.5 because of the lead time for ordering buses." Andrea Solomon and others noted summer road work is concentrated on main roads to finish before school starts.
The Select Board urged residents to attend the Aug. 31 presentation to learn more about the strategy and potential transit options.
