The Exeter Historical Society and the Exeter Public Library collaborated on a new outdoor timeline exhibit installed along the boardwalk behind Water Street, organizers said. The exhibit places signs and markers accessible from each end of the boardwalk with photographs and interpretive text covering Exeter history from seventeenth‑century indigenous land through colonial settlement to modern times.
"We were looking for projects that would highlight the town's history that was more than just during the week of July 4th," said the Historical Society curator and co‑executive director, describing the riverwalk idea and the partnership with the library. Organizers emphasized the local orientation of the exhibit and said photographs would highlight places still recognizable in town. The exhibit is part of the town's 250th celebration activities and will be accessible to residents and visitors year‑round.
