Girl Scouts win approval for community sports equipment library at Gilbert Park

“Hi, my name is Kaylie,” the Girl Scout told the board and described the project’s goals: “We are building a free community storage equipment libraries…to help kids spend less time on their phones and more time playing outdoors.” The plan anticipates a weatherproof storage box holding soccer balls, footballs and other equipment with a target installation date of Oct. 26. Trustees asked about maintenance and replacement of lost equipment; the troop proposed a monthly check and community replenishment plans.
Trustee Butler volunteered to coordinate the installation date with the village garage sale and to connect the scouts with local builders who could help. The board made and seconded a motion to approve the toy-library and separately approved a Girl Scout Gold Award project for troop member Kaylee; both motions were seconded and called for favor during the meeting.
The project is expected to be installed at Gilbert Park and the board asked staff to follow up on timing and permission logistics with the park manager.
