Spearman ISD board adopts broad TASB 'Update 126' changes to local policies

The update covered numerous policy areas, including board meetings and public participation, contracted services and background checks, facility safety and construction, personnel conduct and complaints, instructional materials and grading, technology resources (including cybersecurity and artificial intelligence), and several student welfare policies related to crisis intervention, safety and child abuse reporting.
The motion to implement the changes was made by Trustee Rhett Renner and seconded by Trustee Jay Tracy; the motion carried 7-0. The minutes record unanimous support with all seven trustees voting "Yea." The board did not record amendments to the TASB-recommended language in the minutes.
Why it matters: Local policy updates determine how the district implements state and federal requirements and govern day-to-day procedures for staff, students and the public. The breadth of Update 126 touches governance, personnel, instructional materials, student safety and technology governance, so the changes will affect several administrative areas across campuses.
The district did not provide the full revised local policy texts in the meeting minutes; trustees adopted the TASB package as presented. The board did not set implementation dates in the minutes; administrative staff are responsible for publishing the updated local policies and informing campus staff of any procedural changes.
