New high school turf and scoreboard installed; district credits consultants and local sponsors

Facilities staff and board members reported progress and outcomes for the athletic complex improvements during the Aug. 11 meeting. Mr. Fluke told the board that installation of the new stadium turf finished early on July 24 after favorable weather and that a soft opening and public opening followed. "It turned out fabulous," he said, adding that recent hailstorms showed the field's drainage performing well.
Mr. Fluke said GMAX testing of the new turf returned values "in the area between 70 and 80," and noted that typical action-rate numbers are around 200. He described the padding under the turf as improving absorption and expected durability. The new scoreboard arrived the day of the meeting; Dr. Wiesling told the board the scoreboard material was provided at no cost to the district through sponsorships arranged by PowerAd and thanked local business sponsors and alumni for donations that permitted the installation without tapping capital tax funds.
Board members recognized the consulting firm engaged for the turf installation and credited custodial and maintenance staff for site preparations and safety testing. Administrators also noted plans to display sponsor banners and to publicize the district's selection as a T-Mobile "Friday Night 5G" sweepstakes $5,000 winner ahead of the fall football season.
