Melissa Clow of HR Green provided a multi-topic project status report to the council, covering sidewalk extensions, a water-treatment aerator replacement and sanitary sewer rehabilitation. She said check plans for the 3rd Street sidewalk extensions have been submitted and approved by the Iowa DOT and that the city will move into final plans.
"We have check plans submitted ... and since writing this, they have been approved for the Iowa DOT, so we'll be moving into final plans," Melissa Clow said. She also noted a preliminary sidewalk assessment and repair policy has been provided to the city for review.
On utilities, Clow said the water treatment plant aerator replacement is moving toward a preconstruction meeting with Woodroof Construction, and that the sewer project in the alley between Ford and North Huber is nearly complete; staff expects to finish remaining items to reopen Cedar Street prior to Christmas services.
Why it matters: These capital and maintenance projects affect pedestrian connectivity and critical water and sewer operations; dates and contractors were discussed and a January council approval for a notice-to-proceed on sewer rehab was noted in the update.
What’s next: HR Green expects to present the sidewalk GIS dashboard and final sidewalk policy to the council early next year and to return with a construction request for the sanitary sewer rehab contract in January.
