Community groups donate to Brackett ISD emergency lunch and book-fair funds

"I would like to present you all with a check for the cafeteria fund," said the presenter (S3), who identified themselves as representing St. Vincent de Paul out of Brackettville and St. Mary Magdalene, and added that Sandoval Electric contributed a second check to the fund. Board members thanked the donors and noted community support is appreciated.
District staff explained the emergency lunch fund was created after a paraprofessional reported that some students who qualify for free lunch still lack funds for an additional entree and sometimes remain hungry. Agency official (S4) said students identified as needing assistance will be able to charge an additional entree to the emergency lunch account.
"So that's where this donation will go," S4 said, describing the purpose and administration of the fund. The board recorded no formal action for acceptance of the donation on the consent agenda at this meeting, but public recognition and thanks were given during the recognitions portion of the agenda.
The district also reported a donated community account to assist economically disadvantaged students at the school book fair, enabling students who otherwise could not afford purchases to participate. No dollar amounts were specified in the meeting record.
