District-court staff asks county to consider portable panic buttons; board to seek quotes

Court staff asked the commissioners to reconsider plans for fixed panic buttons at the district-court offices and either switch to portable units or add two more fixed buttons to cover the jury room and the drug-testing station. "I'm asking to see if we can either change the order to portable buttons as opposed to fixed buttons or add an additional 2 buttons," the staff member said, and brought up operational reasons (mediations in the jury room and drug-testing interactions) for portability.
Commissioners raised concerns that portable units do not provide precise location information for law enforcement when an alarm is triggered and noted a prior quote of $8,426.10 for the system. They directed staff to get INA (the vendor) quotes on additional or portable units and to report back on tradeoffs between fixed-location GPS/response advantages and the convenience of portability.
