Mary Heather Knope moved to “charge the newly expanded finance committee to conduct work in support of board goal number 4,” reading the board goal aloud: “the ACSD board will research and model the impacts of the 2026 yield bill and education transformation legislation on the district and follow the community engagement plan to inform and engage stakeholders on critical decisions in the next calendar year.” The motion passed by voice vote after a short discussion about whether to repurpose the facilities committee, combine finance and facilities, or create a new ad hoc group.
Board members pressed for a practical approach to the timeline and workload. One member warned that personnel is the largest district expense—about 80% of the budget—and that large funding shifts in the foundation formula could affect contract negotiations and staffing. The board approved increasing finance committee membership to five and formally expanded the committee’s charge to focus on goal #4, including budget modeling, capital planning input and community engagement.
Next steps: the board asked administration to support the committee with modeling and data and to return with a schedule and suggested committee membership so the group can meet the state and board timelines.
