Jourdanton ISD board adopts officer term limits in operating guidelines

The Jourdanton Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Sept. 8, 2025 to adopt revisions to its Board Operating Guidelines that set term limits for officers.
Superintendent Dr. Tracy Canter presented the proposed changes and outlined requirements for officers. The board adopted language specifying that no trustee shall serve more than three consecutive years as president or in any other officer role; after serving three consecutive years in the same role, a trustee must wait one year before being eligible to serve again.
Trustee Nicole Rakowitz moved to approve the revisions and Trustee Phillip Netardus seconded. The motion carried 7–0 as recorded in the minutes. "I move that the Board of Trustees approve the revisions to the Board Operating Guidelines as presented," Rakowitz said when making the motion.
Board members framed the change as an internal governance rule; the minutes do not record further debate or amendments. The guideline revision will govern officer elections and rotations for future board organization meetings.
