Board approves no-parking signs on Schleeder Parkway near library

Franklin’s Board of Public Works voted Aug. 11 to install no-parking signs on the west side of Schleeder Parkway between Drexel Avenue and Legend Drive, the stretch abutting the library. The measure responds to repeated complaints that parked cars tied to nearby pickleball courts block vehicular and emergency access.
Kevin Schleeter, who introduced the matter to the board, said the block "is plugged solid" during events and warned that emergency vehicles sometimes cannot get through. The board approved the recommendation by voice vote after Alderman Yusuf Hassan moved the motion and Ken Skoranski seconded it.
The action directs staff to have signs installed and enforce parking on the west side while allowing parking on the east side. Board members noted adjacent curb space and alternative parking options across the street as mitigating factors. The vote was recorded by voice and the board moved on to the next agenda item.
