Council approved an agreement with RRD Holding Company for the collection, hauling and disposal of municipal solid waste and recyclable materials and authorized the city to order new toters.
City Manager Darin DeHaan said the company has been responsive and easy to work with. He also warned residents that there will be a slight increase in the garbage rate to offset operational costs and noted that the existing contract with Moring Disposal was very old. Council Member Melanie Cozzi emphasized the need for resident education about acceptable recycling materials; DeHaan said Northern Illinois Disposal (the contractor) will work with the city on educational materials or magnets.
