Council approves solar-credit contract with estimated $7,500 savings

The City of Oregon City Council unanimously approved a solar-credit contract and authorized City Manager Darin DeHaan to execute the documents.
Council Member Kurt Wilson moved to approve the agreement. Mike Mudge, speaking to the council, said US Solar has capacity to serve all city accounts and "estimated the saving to the city to be about seven thousand five hundred dollars." City Attorney Paul Chadwick told the council he had reviewed the contract prior to the vote. The motion passed on a roll call vote with Council Members Melanie Cozzi, Tim Krug, Terry Schuster, Kurt Wilson and Mayor Ken Williams voting yes.
The council did not identify a daytime-versus-nighttime rate difference in the contract; Mayor Ken Williams noted the city receives cheaper ComEd rates to run wells at night and asked whether that would affect savings. Mudge responded that the solar credit program provides a credit regardless of when usage occurs. The council recorded no dissent and did not request additional conditions before authorizing the City Manager to sign.
City staff will proceed with contract execution and implementation steps under existing procurement authority; no additional appropriations were mentioned during the discussion.
