The Kemp Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Aug. 18 to adopt a tax rate of $1.1735 per $100 of taxable value for the 2025 tax year. The board allocated $0.7087 for maintenance and operations and $0.4648 for interest and sinking (debt service).
Board President Vidal Jones opened the item as printed on the agenda, and Trustee Sharron Rankin moved adoption of the resolution, which Trustee Linda Hale seconded. The board recorded the item under Policy CCG(LEGAL): Local Revenue Sources — Ad Valorem Taxes and adopted the resolution on a unanimous vote. The district’s statement on the resolution notes: "THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 25.68761 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 home by approximately $256.88."
The resolution directs the district’s designated tax assessor and collector to assess and collect the taxes. The board did not record additional debate in the meeting minutes; next procedural steps are routine notice and collection per state and local procedures.
