Brackett ISD adopts 2025–26 calendar after staff survey; Calendar B chosen by 65%

District staff presented the process the district used to develop the 2025–26 academic calendar, including two drafts, two advisory‑committee reviews, and a staff Google survey sent to 88 instructional staff members that produced 55 responses.
Staff described two draft calendars. Calendar B — which a majority of responding staff (35 votes, 65%) preferred — includes more holidays, places the last day of school later (May 28 under draft B versus May 21 under draft A) and eliminates planning periods during the day in favor of multiple planning days throughout the year. Staff noted the calendars keep staff start dates on August 4 and student start dates on August 18 and that Calendar B yields approximately 4.22 extra days' worth of instructional minutes as a buffer for weather or other closures. The administration recommended adopting Calendar B and the board voted to accept the recommendation.
Trustees discussed tradeoffs such as planning days, stock‑show scheduling and the mix of teacher workdays; staff said the stock‑show date remains subject to the stock‑show board's decision later in March and the district will adjust the calendar if that external schedule changes.
