The Oregon City Council on Aug. 13 appointed Matthew Kalnins as chief of police and swore him into office during the meeting. Mayor Ken Williams moved for the appointment, and the council approved the motion on roll call with no nays.
City Manager Darin DeHaan said changes were made to the job’s educational requirements before the council approved the updated job description. The council also approved an employment agreement for Kalnins; the employment agreement passed by voice and roll call after the appointment. Kalnins later thanked attendees in the department reports section.
The council’s personnel actions — the ordinance update for the police section, the job description, the appointment and the employment agreement — were all approved unanimously. The council directed standard follow-up to implement the employment terms through the city’s human-resources and police-department channels.
