Oregon swears in new police officer Taylor Buckwalter

Chief of Police Matt Kalnins introduced Buckwalter, saying, "Taylor Buckwalter is a lifelong resident of Rochelle. She has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Platteville. She will be attending the Sauk Valley Community College Police Academy for sixteen weeks." Kalnins told the council that field training for Buckwalter is expected to begin in January. Council members expressed support for the hire.
The swearing-in was presented as an official personnel action rather than a contested item. No formal vote was required; the council proceeded to other agenda business after the ceremony. Buckwalter’s academy attendance and scheduled field training provide a timeline for when she will begin regular patrol duties.
