Education Foundation reports bigger scholarship pool, renewed educator grants and corporate donor support

Carole Hart, executive director of the Manassas City Schools Education Foundation, briefed the board on FY26 accomplishments and FY27 goals, highlighting scholarship growth, donor partnerships and restored educator grants.
Hart said scholarship awards rose from $35,500 last year to $42,700 this year. She described several donor-supported initiatives: Micron donated $17,000 to buy Newsela subscriptions for METS science and social studies classes; Lockheed Martin gave $10,000 for robotics textbooks and $2,500 to support the Manassas City Public Schools food pantry at METS; United Bank increased a scholarship from $500 to $1,000; and IMEG donated $1,000 for five free books for pre-K students. Hart told the board the foundation's total bank balance as of June 30 was $167,899.05 and that only 9% of raised funds were undesignated.
Hart said the foundation awarded $10,732.25 in educator grants last year and plans to expand fundraising efforts in FY27 — including a new treasurer search and a second fundraiser later in the year — to grow undesignated funds that support teacher grants. She also said the foundation is codifying processes for scholarships and grants and will return with donor spotlights and a fuller plan.
