Mr. Kelly, the division's director of finance, presented the FY28 draft budget development calendar and explained two calendar changes intended to make work sessions more substantive.
"In order to make sure these work sessions are meaningful, we decided to take that [November] work session off of the calendar and do the first work session on January 7," Kelly said, adding that the superintendent's proposed budget will be presented Feb. 9, the public hearing will be Feb. 23, the final markup March 2 and adoption planned for March 9. The change moves the schedule so the division can use state revenue figures received in mid-December.
Board members welcomed the adjustment. Miss Stevens said it helps newly elected board members who otherwise start without full budget context, and Miss Miles noted the extra weeks will allow more time to present unfunded needs to the city prior to its review. No formal budget adoption occurred at the meeting; the calendar sets target dates for the FY28 process.
