Members of the City of Oregon Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee reviewed the City of Galena's Green Pledge for businesses and said the pledge provided a good foundation, noting it covers general practices, water and energy conservation, and pollution prevention. Committee members discussed adapting the pledge into a simple template local businesses could use to get started and talked about a checks-and-balances system to support compliance.
City Manager Darin DeHaan said he is working with the Oregon Chamber of Commerce to organize a Lunch and Learn to educate local businesses about the pledge and related practices, and he said he will invite the City of Galena's city administrator to the committee's Dec. 9 meeting for further discussion. The committee also discussed distributing clear, illustrated educational materials for residents about recycling, garbage and yard waste to reduce confusion and improve participation.
