Liquor Authority votes to summarily suspend Taste of the City license after Brooklyn mass shooting

The Liquor Authority (Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control) voted Sept. 4 to summarily suspend the license of Taste of the City Lounge Inc., the agency said at a special meeting called after a mass shooting inside the Brooklyn premises on Aug. 17, 2025. Counsel’s office prosecutor Somalia Samuel told members the incident left 14 victims in total, including three people who died: "Marvin St. Louis, 19, Amadou Diallo, 27, and Jamelle Childs, 35." The agenda listed the license ID as 0340-22-105099 and an address of 903 Franklin Avenue; counsel’s presentation later referred to 908 Franklin Avenue.
Counsel’s office recommended an emergency summary order of suspension, saying the office has documented what it called an "imminent threat to public safety" at the location and that the licensee had failed to implement safety measures recommended by NYPD and the mayor’s office. Chair Lily Fan and Commissioner De Leon voted to suspend the license pending resolution of the disciplinary matter; the meeting was then adjourned.
Why it matters: the authority applied an immediate administrative remedy, removing the premises’ ability to operate while investigators and prosecutors continue work on the incident and related enforcement matters. Counsel said a notice pleading and exhibits would be issued after the meeting, and staff were directed to continue prosecution of the case.
