San Mateo County supervisors adjusted the day's order to move items linked to detention-policy and agenda priorities to the top of the meeting and reopened targeted public comment. The board's agenda-builder discussion explained why a juvenile-justice study session had been postponed previously and set a new date.
President Corso told the board that scheduling two study sessions in the same week had been seen as too much for staff amid a sudden and large vehicle-license-fee (VLF) shortfall. Supervisor Mueller briefed colleagues on new projections showing a potential VLF shortfall near $230 million and said county and city staff were coordinating urgent legislative work; that fiscal pressure prompted the board to reassign staff time and reprioritize the schedule. The juvenile-justice study session was set for Aug. 25; members also agreed to bring a VLF study session and a related press conference in the coming days.
