Crawford Drainage Basin and Alfredo Field MultiPark concepts advance after resident input

Trustee Fredericks summarized the Crawford Drainage Basin study and the MultiPark concept, saying consultants and an ad hoc citizen committee have crafted concept drawings and posted them to the village website. The design would excavate part of Alfredo Field to form a temporary drainage basin for major rain events while retaining attractive park landscaping most of the time.
"The concept has been working with village administrator Palmer and our village engineer ... to see if there is a way to take some of the land in the Alfredo Field, excavate some of that to create a temporary drainage basin for those very high rain flood events," Trustee Fredericks said, noting the goal is to preserve the park's character for normal conditions while increasing resilience during storms. Resident and committee leader Ben Lentz emphasized the opportunity to develop an underused plot and gardeners and volunteers raised practical suggestions for pathways, water fountains, and bench/trash placement.
Gardeners who reviewed the plans recommended pathway measurements (one observed a 0.25 mile loop), asked for careful bench placement away from trash cans, and applauded the inclusion of water fountains for dog-walkers. The board said a more detailed micro-design review committee will examine finer siting decisions and encouraged residents to comment via the village administrator.
