Selectmen push to enforce driveway‑paving permits after recent failures and drainage problems

Several board members raised concerns about private driveways being paved without required culverts or with undersized culverts, which they said is causing added drainage problems and faster deterioration of town roads. A board member argued the town has a permit policy for driveway paving that is not being enforced and suggested making the requirement more visible to pavers and homeowners. "We just need to start enforcing it because some of the driveways have been paved at Pete's scene," one member said, adding that enforcement might require tearing back work at the homeowner's expense if not done to specification.

The board directed staff to draft outreach to local paving contractors and to post permitting requirements prominently on the town website. Members acknowledged this could prompt complaints from residents asked to add culverts, but said better enforcement is necessary to preserve road investments and reduce repeated repairs.
