Kanab City approved an amendment extending its existing Fire Protection Agreement with Kane County through December 31, 2026 to avoid a lapse in structural fire-response coverage for developed properties adjacent to the city. City Manager Kyler Ludwig said annexation and special-district boundary processes remain incomplete and the extension preserves continuity of service until a long-term solution is implemented.
Ludwig described the longer-term approach under consideration: annexation for properties contiguous to the city and incorporation of noncontiguous properties into the Vermillion Cliffs Special Service District, which would then contract for fire protection. Councilmember Heaton moved to approve Resolution 6-7-26 R and the motion passed with members present voting in favor.
