Council approves rezoning of parcel near 379 E 1100 S; councilmember recuses

The Kanab City Council voted to rezone parcel K-17-30-Annex (approximately 379 E 1100 S) from RA (Residential Agriculture) to R-1-20 (single-family, 20,000-square-foot minimum) on June 23. Land Use Coordinator Janae Chatterley said the applicant’s agent, Iron Rock Engineering, requested the change on behalf of property owner Rebecca Ott; planning staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval.
Tom Avant of Iron Rock Engineering told the council the applicant was requesting the zone change "so their children can build homes on the property." Councilmember Heaton recused from the discussion and vote because of professional involvement with Iron Rock Engineering; the ordinance passed with three affirmative votes from members present and one recusal.
