The La Vega I.S.D. Board of Trustees voted on Sept. 16, 2025, to delay action on Superintendent Dr. Sharon M. Shields' contract extension, salary and benefits after a closed-session evaluation. The board returned to open session at 8:30 p.m. and approved the motion to postpone further action; Henry C. Jennings, Raymond Koon, Board President Myron Ridge and Brenda Rocha voted in favor, and Rev. Larry Carpenter voted against the delay.
Board members had moved into closed session at 7:21 p.m. under the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Section 551.074, for the superintendent's evaluation and contract discussion. The board did not adopt changes to the contract at the Sept. 16 meeting and instead set a special-called meeting in two weeks at 6:30 p.m. to continue consideration of the superintendent's contract, salary and benefits. The minutes note the motion to delay but do not record any amended contract terms, dollar figures, or a final decision.
