Sodus Point mayor resigns; trustees appoint Matthew Nowak and elevate William Kallusch to mayor

According to the meeting record, "MOTION by Trustee Sprague and seconded by Trustee Madison to approve the resignation of Mayor McDowell effective January 31, 2025" was made and carried with all voting aye. Deputy Mayor William Kallusch then appointed Matthew Nowak to the vacant trustee position. Later, after Deputy Mayor Kallusch resigned his trustee seat, Trustee Nowak moved and Trustee Madison seconded a motion "to appoint William Kallusch to the Mayor position," which also carried with all voting aye. Trustee Verbridge was attending via Zoom and was unable to vote but asked that her full support for the appointment be noted.
The leadership changes were recorded as formal board actions in the minutes; the board did not record extended public discussion or opposition to the motions. These changes create an open trustee seat (the former Deputy Mayor/Trustee seat) and shift the mayoral office to William Kallusch effective immediately as recorded in the meeting minutes.
