Blue Springs R-IV board appoints Nikki Emmerson to fill District 4 seat

The Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education voted to appoint Nikki Emmerson to the vacant District 4 seat, with the chair announcing six affirmative votes after members raised their hands in favor.

Nikki Emmerson was formally sworn in during the meeting. A board clerk administered the oath; Emmerson repeated the pledge to "discharge the duties of school director in and for district number 4, County of Jackson, state of Missouri," and the chair congratulated her afterward.

Emmerson introduced family members in the meeting room and thanked the board and community for selecting her from a field of 11 candidates. "It is our teachers, it's our administrators, it's our support staff, it's our bus drivers, it's our early educators, people in the nutrition, our security, our PTAs, our parents," Emmerson said, praising the community she called "the village of the Blue Springs School District." She said she looks forward to "jump[ing] on board and get[ting] up to speed."

The nomination was made from the floor by a board member and was seconded (the chair thanked "Kaye" for the second). The vote was taken by a show of hands at the chair's request; the clerk confirmed six votes in the affirmative and declared the motion approved. No roll-call votes or individual vote-by-name were recorded in the transcript.

The meeting concluded shortly afterward when the chair moved to adjourn; the clerk again confirmed six affirmative votes and the meeting was adjourned.
