Commissioner Williams, chair of the Chilton County Commission, read and moved a detailed resolution asking the Wilton Town Council to permit residents in the Montevallo and Dry Valley areas to transfer water service from the Wilton Water System to the Chilton Water Authority. Williams cited repeated service failures and emergency actions during recent outages: "Whereas, the Wilton Water System has experienced repeated and prolonged service failures, including a water outage beginning in approximately July 2026 that left at least 23 households in the Chilton County portion of the system without running water for nearly 1 month." Commissioner Williams presented the motion and it received a second.
Commissioner Perkins and other commissioners discussed whether the Chilton Water Authority had formally agreed to take on the customers. Perkins said the authority's representative had indicated capacity to do so: "Their representative expressed that they did have the capacity." Commissioner Childress offered an amendment to make clear any letter of support referenced the Chilton Water Authority specifically; the amendment passed unanimously and the main motion, as amended, was approved unanimously. The resolution authorizes the commission chair to sign and submit a formal letter of support and directs county staff to take actions necessary to carry out the resolution's purpose.
