La Vega ISD board adopts 2025-26 budget and raises property tax rate to 1.255200

"That the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of 1.255200, which is effectively a 3.65 percent increase in the tax rate," Trustee Henry C. Jennings moved during the Aug. 26 meeting; Trustee Randy Devorsky seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance and the budget. The board also approved a related defeasance order for the Interest and Sinking Rate for 2025-2026.
Superintendent Dr. Sharon M. Shields introduced the budget during the public hearing portion of the meeting, describing the maintenance-and-operations and interest-and-sinking components before trustees took action. Trustees then voted to adopt the Official Budget for 2025-2026 after the board considered the Monthly Budget Analysis and amendments moved earlier in the agenda.
The meeting minutes record no public comments during the budget hearing. Trustees present for the vote were Rev. Larry Carpenter, Randy Devorsky, Henry C. Jennings, Raymond Koon, Myron Ridge, Brenda Rocha and Mildred Watkins. The board meeting began at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
