Leander ISD included a resolution in the Jan. 23 agenda materials that would authorize the administration to compensate employees for days the district was closed due to winter weather beginning Jan. 21, 2025.
The resolution text describes freezing temperatures, sleet and ice across the Greater Austin area and states the district closed operations on Jan. 21, 2025. It instructs administration to compensate employees "for days when the District is/was closed due to bad weather in accordance with board policy DEA (LOCAL)." The resolution also explicitly authorizes time-and-one-half pay for nonexempt auxiliary employees who were required to report to work to perform duties such as checking facilities, debris cleanup and preparing for reopening. The packet contains a certificate for recording the Board vote with "Ayes/Nays/Abstentions" lines left blank.
The resolution is worded to avoid the need to make up missed instructional minutes unless the winter closure exceeds the instructional minutes embedded in the 2024–25 instructional calendar or unless TEA requires make-up days or waivers. Administration recommended approval in the packet; the documents do not contain a recorded outcome of the Board’s action.
