Selectboard discusses last change order on Blakehill Bridge; total cost rises to $1.22 million

The board was told a second and final change order for the Blakehill Bridge project totaled $84,797 to cover additional asphalt, larger-than-expected excavation into ledge and extra concrete work on both abutments. The chair said the total bridge cost increased to $1,219,950 from an initial estimate of $1,121,740 and that the state will pay 60% of the project cost.
"That change order was for $84,797, and it covered the additional, asphalt that was required because of the base not being in the shape that, once they actually got digging that they expected," the Chair reported. He also said a 5% retainage was held and that the board expects to authorize release of retainage in the next two to three months after final accounting.
Residents asked whether the town will receive a full accounting when retainage is released and where any extra local funds will be applied. Chair confirmed the state share and said the board will provide follow-up accounting when the retainage and final payment are processed.
