Granton board accepts clerk's resignation, appoints water operator as temporary deputy clerk

The Granton Village Board on Jan. 22 accepted the resignation of Village Clerk/Treasurer Fabreana Buffington and moved to ensure short-term coverage for upcoming bond document signings. President John Garbisch opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Office; board members in attendance included Brian Vine and Troy Moen.
"Motion was made by Brian Vine to accept the resignation of Fabreana Buffington from the Village Clerk/Treasurer position," the minutes say. The motion was seconded by Troy Moen and recorded as passed "All in favor." Buffington was listed as absent on the meeting roll call.
The board emphasized the need for a part-time clerk to sign documents tied to the village's Clean Water Bond on Feb. 26, 2025, and to attend the Feb. 12 meeting. To provide immediate coverage, "Motion was made by Brian Vine to appoint Water works operator Jared Thomas as Deputy Clerk and pay an additional $10.00 per hour of work in excess of current wages for hours related to the PSC, utility payment collections, tax collections and other duties," the minutes state. President John Garbisch seconded the appointment; the motion passed unanimously among members present.
The board recorded that the temporary arrangement will remain in place until Feb. 26, 2025, while the village posts the permanent clerk opening and considers longer-term staffing.
