Staff outlines transit-oriented development planning, Farmers Market and community garden updates

Staff Member Paul Ruane told the commission the transit-oriented development planning effort around the Metra station is advancing with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) serving as grant holder and a third-party planning or engineering consultant being selected. Ruane said the effort is expected to include formation of a steering committee, a project website, and expanded social media and public engagement with opportunities for commissioner involvement.
Ruane also announced the Farmers Market is scheduled to begin the first Wednesday of June, operating from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the 157th Street lot adjacent to the Metra station. On the community garden, Ruane said City Council approved the project with additional conditions and that it will be revisited in the fall; limited activity has been observed at the site to date.
