The Oak Forest Planning & Zoning Commission on July 15 approved a change to the exterior materials at Carefree Village, allowing utility brick to replace the previously approved cultured veneer stone on the lower portion of the building. Community Planner Hunter Heyman said the supplier for the cultured veneer stone could not meet demand and that the applicant proposed switching to utility brick to avoid delaying construction. "The change is consistent with the City's design standards," Heyman said.
Commissioners signaled comfort with the substitution after staff noted the two materials are similar in appearance and that the brick offers comparable or superior durability and maintenance characteristics. Commissioner Forbes said he had seen the sample panel at the site and spoke favorably of its appearance. Commissioner Larson moved to approve MjrDR 26-04 and Commissioner Runge seconded; the motion carried 6-0 with Commissioners Guisinger and McGrath absent. The commission's approval allows construction to continue without the expected delay from the veneer supplier issue.
