Flex-patch bids show wide line-item variation on Minong roads

At the June 8 special meeting, the Minong Town Board opened flex-patch bids for several road segments. Roy’s Sealcoating bid $4,500 for Bass Lake Rd (Hwy 77 to Brancel), $2,325 for Bass Lake Rd (Brancel to Smith Bridge), $6,000 for Pokegama Rd and $4,275 for Ostrom Rd (E to West stretch). Fahrner’s flex-patch line items were higher on some stretches—for example, Fahrner listed $7,581 for Bass Lake Rd (Hwy 77 to Brancel).
Board member Dean Patrick asked why similar items produced such different totals. Brad, a representative of Fahrner, told the board that road cracking complicates precise estimates: "anything with cracks is not scientific, you are driving the road and try to patch the big ones, it is very suggestive on what you are going to get." The board accepted the bids for record; staff will return with procurement recommendations at a later meeting.
