AdventHealth Ottawa reports jump in charity care, projects canopy renovation

Through June, charity-care utilization was "just under 1,400,000," and presenters said they anticipate finishing the year at "just under 2,800,000." The hospital reported year-to-date admissions up about 5%, ER registrations up about 6.5%, and non-ED physician visits up more than 10%.
The presenters flagged clinical milestones and facility investments. An AdventHealth spokesperson noted that a national patient-safety reviewer recognized AdventHealth Ottawa with an A grade: "AdventHealth Ottawa was 1 of them." Hospital staff also described a roughly $400,000 canopy renovation at the main entrance, plans for a patient financial navigator to help residents with billing questions, growth in chemotherapy services of about 60% over five years, and a revived labor-and-delivery program (62 births reported as of yesterday, with a projection of about 120 births for the year). Commissioners asked about out-of-county utilization and staffing; presenters said early OB-ultrasound data show about 60% of those ultrasound patients came from surrounding counties and that the labor-and-delivery floor has roughly 14 FTEs.
