The commenter said the project, led by Professor Vasquez, would redraft tax card–based historic maps and make the historic Overtown experience accessible to both in-person visitors and remote audiences.
The commenter also noted that the Miami-Dade Heritage Trust is pursuing a historic designation for Overtown and suggested highlighting sites such as the police precinct, the historic theater and hotels, and using historic characters and personas "to bring them back to life." Commissioner McQueen responded, "I look forward to any opportunity to highlight what's going on in Overtown and look forward to the opportunity to talk to you about how we can work collaboratively."
