City installed 78 heat sensors in energy‑burdened homes; data to be recovered and analyzed in October

Chief Resilience Officer Sonja Brubaker told the committee the city installed 78 heat sensors in and around homes in energy‑burdened neighborhoods during the summer and is collecting data for analysis.
Brubaker said staff will retrieve the sensors in October and pair the sensor readings with a resident survey to better understand lived experiences during the heat season. "We installed 78 heat sensors inside and outside of people's homes in energy burden neighborhoods," she said. The Office plans to use those results to identify practical recommendations to keep people cooler and to inform outreach and cooling‑center planning next season.
Committee members asked about integration with Alert Miami and outreach to ensure residents know about available cooling resources; staff replied that boosted communications and the alert system include cooling center locations and that further data will be shared after analysis.
