Parent presses board for transparency, raises conflict-of-interest concerns about proposed data center

Amanda Porter, an Ohio County Schools parent, used her delegation time to press the board for documents and clarity about a proposed data center and to raise concerns about whether the board is receiving all relevant information.
"If this data center is truly the asset to our community that it's being sold as, then getting this information to all of you should be pretty easy," Porter told the board. She asked whether board counsel (Mr. Croft) had brought any client information to the board and said the board's responsibility is to "protect the children of this county." She urged the board to identify who is responsible for obtaining the plans, timelines and risk assessments needed to make an informed decision.
Board members responded that more information will be forthcoming, noting that the city council may get additional reports and that the board's central-office staff is engaged. One board member said the board president would excuse himself from voting if a personal conflict arose. The board did not take formal action on the matter during the meeting and several members encouraged attendees to review city council materials and await additional details.
