A motion to move all City of Lytle investment funds back to Lytle State Bank ended in a tie Jan. 12, 2026, when the council vote split 2-2 and Mayor Ruben Gonzalez cast the tie-breaking vote against the transfer.
Alderman Richard Hughes initially moved to transfer all funds to Lytle State Bank; the motion was seconded by Alderman David Emery. The minutes record the vote as "2 ayes and 2 nays," and that Mayor Gonzalez broke the tie with a nay, causing the motion to fail. After that result, Alderman Michael Rodriguez moved — and Alderwoman Anna Carrillo seconded — a motion to take no action and return the item to a future council agenda; that motion passed 4-0.
Council discussion did not produce a recorded amendment or a new investment policy at the meeting. The item was formally deferred for further consideration at a subsequent meeting, per the successful motion to bring the matter back to council.
